Huge congratulations to Mr Wilkinson for winning North Yorkshire's Secondary Teacher of the Year award last night. At an awards ceremony in Harrogate, Mr Wilkinson beat all other nominations to win the coveted award, sadly he was unable to collect his award in person as he is in France with our Year 7s. However on his return we will ensure he gets full recognition. Mr Wilkinson has been instrumental in leading Teaching and Learning in The Wensleydale School And Sixth Form throughout 2016-17. He does this primarily by being an Outstanding practioner who inspires, encourages and takes a passionate interest in his subject (Physics) and his students. He gives of his time freely and unconditionally, going above and beyond the call of duty, to ensure students get the teaching they need. He has inspired Yr 5 and 6 students at our primary feeder schools with his TWS Science roadshow- improving the collaboration between all of the schools. Furthermore, Mr W has mentored dozens of Yr11,12 and 13 students, providing them with purposeful and inspiring revision sessions. He is self depreciating and modest and does not fully know the impact he has on the students and staff. Despite his nickname of ‘Darth Wilko’, students speak warmly about him and know how hard he works for them. As the Deputy Head is my right hand man, who I can totally and utterly depend on and who both challlenges and supports me absolutely. Mr W puts the students at the heart of everything he does. He is awesome!
