Update from the Headteacher

17th July 2020

This will be the last of these updates for a few weeks, as school closes tomorrow for the summer. I will be back in the office mid August and should anything change significantly about September plans, I will be in touch. In any case I will email all parents again at the end of August.
Attached is the new Risk Assessment, which highlights how we plan to operate. The risk assessment is fairly long and a bit awkward to read, so there are few points I would like to make clear:
1.Dolce our caterers are going to provide the hot meal option in the form of a ‘grab bag’ offer. This will make service swifter and help us to maintain separation of year groups. I will hopefully be able to give you more details in August about the kind of food on offer
2..Dolce will also offer a breakfast club which will be a bookable service for up to 25 students. Again more detail will follow in August.
3.The new timetable for your child will be available on GO4schools from 1 September. It is important that  students know which is their first lesson on WEDNESDAY 9 SEPTEMBER, as they will be directed  to that classroom on arrival.
4.As Year 6 students have had a limited induction period, we are opening school to Year 7 students ONLY on TUESDAY 8 SEPTEMBER. The school buses will run on that day as normal.
5.If students have a PE lesson timetabled, we are advising them to come to school in PE kit for that day. I would urge parents to make sure this includes tracksuit trousers as it can be cold sitting in shorts all day, especially as we have to ventilate the classrooms with open windows.
6. It is also essential that students bring a school bag from September. We have had to close all locker facilities as it would be impossible to sanitise them each day effectively. Students will need their own pens, pencils, calculators  and other equipment as we are not able to ‘loan’ during Covid-19
7.We will be giving each student a plastic wallet containing a mini whiteboard and pen, for use in lessons. This becomes the students own and will need to be brought to school each day.

Also attached is the Parent Handbook for 2020-21. This has all the details of Covid-19 changes  and has been thoroughly updated and overhauled so please do give it a good read.
Finally we are delighted to announce several new members of staff who are joining us in September. These fantastic additions to the staff means we are fully staffed with subject specialists across the whole school.
Miss Autumn Kelly-Farrell -RS/Sociology
Mr Martin Bennison -English/Drama
Ms Dawn Hewitt- French
Miss Alexandria Wallis- English/Drama
Mrs Rachel Smith -Science/Physics

I would like to thank you once again for all your support and at times challenge (quite rightly) during this difficult time. In some ways this crisis has allowed us to really look at what works and what doesn’t and the changes we have made will make the school a better place.
If you have any concerns I will be picking up emails throughout the summer.
I wish you a safe and Covid-free summer.
Stay safe
