Half term activities

18th October 2021

Half term is nearly here! It seems like it came really quickly as always, and with all the hard work everyone’s been doing so far, it’s important to use it as a chance to have a break. So, we’ve compiled some ideas for half-term activities.

Carve a pumpkin: Halloween is also just around the corner and we’re now into the full swing of autumn, so why not get into the spirit? You can often buy pumpkins from local supermarkets and greengrocers, and then you just need some tools and something to protect the surface you’re carving on. Take off the top, scoop out the insides and get carving! Remember to always have a parent or guardian present when you’re using sharp tools/knives.

Another autumn-based activity is to get stuck into some themed baking: Again, this is one where you might need an adult present, and there’s loads of options on the ‘Autumnal desserts recipes’ on the BBC GoodFood website here.

Go for a walk: This seems like an obvious one given where we live and the abundance of beautiful trails, but it’s always nice to be reminded. Walks are a great way to destress and see some pretty sights.

Pick up a new book! Half term is a brilliant opportunity to get some reading in, and you can always borrow a book for free from a local library. The Book Trust have some great suggestions on their website here, with different options for lots of different ages. We like the sound of Sheets, which they describe as a ‘beautiful graphic novel’: ‘At just 13, Marjorie has to run the family launderette. When a plan emerges to turn it into a posh yoga retreat, unexpected help comes from some sheet-wearing ghosts.’.
