Big School Birdwatch 2022

12th January 2022

After welcoming everyone back from a well-earned Christmas break, we thought we’d share some information about the RSPB’s annual birdwatch. As an apt start to our spring term, the initiative encourages young people to get outside and observe local wildlife. It’s a great way to appreciate Wensleydale’s beautiful surroundings.

If you’d like to get involved, the RSPB has a great printable that you can fill in which birds you spot and how many. You can find the sheet here. Lots of the birds are ones you might know how to identify already (we know we often see them at this time of year!) but if you see something you’re not sure about, this link: https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/wildlife-guides/identify-a-bird/ will help you to figure out what you’ve seen.

In the spirit of supporting the local wildlife, we also wanted to share these fun pine cone bird feeders you can make at home by following this simple guide.

Please feel free to let us know how you get on, and get permission from a guardian when doing your DIYs.
