Extra Curricular Activities

We run a number of clubs and recreational activities before, during and after school. At present these include art and computer clubs, drama, sports, music and D&T activities. We have highly valued School Council, which meets regularly throughout the year to discuss key school issues. It consists of student representatives from every tutor group.

Staff run a very wide range of sporting activities and teams for students throughout the year. At present these include competitive matches against other schools in rugby, athletics, cricket, football, hockey and badminton. Additionally we have our own fleet of mountain bikes and a climbing wall on site.

Recent sporting successes and school productions, show that we often succeed well beyond what might be expected of a school of this size. There are various after school clubs on offer ranging from the Science, Technology and Engineering Clubs through to Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Importantly, for a small rural school in North Yorkshire, the school has a number of opportunities for mind-broadening foreign travel and exchange; these include school ski trips, school sports tours to Barcelona, Canada and Los Angeles. As part of the ‘ Comenius’ project we run exchanges with schools in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Norway etc. and we are involved with the Amala Children's Home in India.

Students in Years 7, 9 & 12 have opportunities to participate in outdoor education programmes at Low Mill and Bewerley Park. Field trips and visits are approved by the Headteacher, or the School Governors in the case of overnight visits, and are subject to comprehensive safety regulations.
