Introducing the new Senior Student Leaders.

9th November 2018

At our whole school assembly this morning Mr Ashcroft led us through the theme of ‘Valuing individuals’, aimed at remembering those who gave their lives for us through the conflicts of the past and present, but also giving thought to those who value us as individuals and give their time to help others.

On this theme – Over the last 3 years we have had a few versions of a student leadership team and school council. However this year we are making some significant changes to allow the students to have a greater say and lead in what we do at school. This week I have had the pleasure in interviewing a large number of Ks4 and 5 students, who had taken the time and effort to apply to become Head Boy and Girl, Deputies and Student Leaders. It is therefore with great pleasure that I announce our Head Boy as James Ashcroft – Yr 13 and Head Girl – Emily Scott- Yr12. Deputy Head Girls are Lizzie Simpson – Yr 12 and Liss Semons -Yr10. All four students performed strongly at interview and demonstrated a real passion for change and wanting to give something back to the school and the students. The first formal task for James and Emily, will be to accompany me on Sunday at the annual remembrance ceremony in Leyburn. Much more to follow about the student leadership team as they begin to shape and develop roles for themselves and others – aimed at valuing others and giving of their time to make school a better place for all.

Also appointed as Senior Student Leaders – to support the Heads and Deputies are : Zoe Bell Yr 10, Sean Malton Yr 11, Emily Martin Yr 11, and Molly Callaghan-Hoskins Yr 11. These students are actively going to support students through Peer Mentoring, coaching and support in lessons. I would like to thank all students for giving me such a pleasurable  couple of days interviewing and talking with them. Our students have many qualities and a lot to give. Well done.
