Weekly update from the Headteacher

26th June 2020
This week has been rather hot, as the temperature soared in school. However, once again I am very pleased to say all students have behaved extremely well and  made real progress in catching up on their work.

We have finalized the plans for the last 2 weeks of term and  some Year 10 parents will have had contact from Mrs Hall. For those invited in specifically for the last 2 weeks, I will email you next week with all the information you need.
The new school jumpers have now been sorted and labelled and we are working out  a way for you to collect them from school over the next few weeks. More details will follow shortly.
Despite the government reducing social distancing to 1m+ from 4 July, we are going to maintain our current 2 m social distancing throughout the rest of this term. It works and all staff and students are used to it. As to plans for September, we are still waiting for the official Government guidance. However, I know the press are speculating about what might be asked of us. I suspect that school will essentially be back in full in September for all year groups, with some adaptations to routine. I don’t want to second guess official guidelines, but we are working on plans to bring everyone in. I hope that next week I will be able to give you clearer information and answer any questions you might have.
In the next couple of weeks Mr Ellis will be sending out a video about our Post-16 offer to all current Year 11 students. Whilst many have plans in place already, for year12 and 3, the current Covid situation may impact on these decisions. We are focused on BTEC Level 3 Business – equivalent to 2 full A levels,  IT, Sociology and Psychology  and offer a unique and bespoke mentoring system with local bossiness. This summer our first cohort in year 13 will graduate. They worked incredibly hard and had completed all the external examinations in business priori to  lockdown. We are very proud of them and have seen them grow in confidence and maturity whilst with us. I appreciate it is not an offer for everyone, but we can guarantee that yr12 will start in full in September AND there are no early mornings bus trips to and from Darlington. Please keep us in mind when making your final decision in August.
I would like to thank all of you for your continued support and openness. We want to make sure that our lines of communication with parents are clear and get through to everyone. Many of you have taken the time to speak with me about your preferred methods. Therefore I have taken the decision to launch a Wensleydale school Facebook page in the Autumn term. I believe we need to engage more fully with social media, in an appropriate way and hopefully this will improve communication.
Lastly, we have been so impressed with all our students who are in school, they are polite, respectful, they make us smile and genuinely want to be here ( well most of them!) They are a credit to you and we look forward to welcoming everyone back as soon as we are given the ‘green light’.
Have good weekend, dodging the thunderstorms
