Surprising Career Paths: Maths

18th November 2020

In the New Year we will be holding our sixth form open days. Our sixth form offers something a bit different to the normal A-Level offering. In this series, we will be sharing less obvious career paths you can follow from the subjects we offer at The Wensleydale School Business and Innovation Centre. This week we will be sharing all the perks of maths.

Maths is such a diverse and important subject. There are lots of careers you can go into which you wouldn’t expect with a qualification in maths, it opens so many doors to different career paths.

  • Animator: Animation and design jobs instantly make you think of art subjects. Animators work to create animations for films, TV and advertisement. However, despite all the art involved maths is just as important. The job requires geometric equations and algebra to create different frames, rotations and sizes. Maths covers the logistical sides of this career path.

  • Lawyer: Surprising to some but maths can be essential in law related jobs. Maths allows you to develop high analytical skills which come in great use day to day in legal jobs. The skills involved in maths can work cohesively with evidencing and rationalising skills used throughout law and debate. Maths and arithmetics can provide a great baseline to help you settle into a law career.

  • Pilot: A pilot’s job includes several areas involving maths from speed and altitude to the different specifications of a plane. It is an excellent foundation not just for a pilot role but any flight related career. Different algorithms are essential for flight related jobs. Accuracy in maths is essential for a job in Aerospace- there are so many routes to explore.

These are just three career paths maths can lead you to. The transferable job skills the subject provides is infinite. To see how we can equip you or your child for their future please see our prospectus here: https://www.wensleydale.n-yorks.sch.uk/content/uploads/2017/11/WDale_6th_2019v5_screen.pdf
